3rd ANNUAL COSMO CONFERENCE
August 7-8, 2026 | Chicago, IL
The Collaboration for Outcomes Using Social Media in Oncology (COSMO): A Women in Medicine® VERITAS Initiative
The Third Annual COSMO Conference brings together physicians, researchers, patient advocates, healthcare leaders, and communication experts to address one of the most urgent challenges in cancer care today: misinformation and trust in the digital space.
The Collaboration for Outcomes Using Social Media in Oncology (COSMO): A Women in Medicine® VERITAS Initiative focuses on helping oncology professionals lead online with integrity, empathy, and evidence—so patients and communities have access to credible, science-driven cancer information when it matters most.
WHY IS WOMEN IN MEDICINE® LEADING COSMO?
The way people learn about their health has changed. Nearly 70% of patients turn to the internet first when they have a medical question—and in cancer care, that number is even higher. But health misinformation spreads fast, and patients can struggle to separate data-driven information from anecdotal stories or “miracle cure” claims. Our program exists to close the gap between high trust in clinicians and low clinician presence online, empowering healthcare professionals to show up as trusted voices in digital cancer communication.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This special two-day conference is an intentional, high-impact gathering designed to equip oncology professionals, advocates, patients, and anyone touched by oncology with the tools and confidence to engage online responsibly—through conference learning, research, and community-building. Join us in Chicago for two days of education, collaboration, and connection—with a shared commitment to improving the digital future of cancer care.
Conference themes include:
Tackling cancer misinformation
Using social media to advance cancer research
Improving representation and equity in digital spaces
Supporting patients through nutrition, exercise, wellness, and survivorship conversations
Distinguishing credible digital opinion leadership from influencer culture
OUR IMPACT
COSMO drives national momentum:
National Collaboration: Connected hundreds of oncology professionals across institutions and disciplines
Proven Scholarship: Nine published research papers originated from COSMO’s inaugural meeting
